  • Students inroduce themselves one by one.
  • The teacher chooses students who obtained an excellent grade (A+) in English for SPM exam to share their tips.
  • The teacher asks for volunteers to share their tips in excelling in English.

Reflection

Students were very happy to get to know their classmates who are mostly new for them. They were pleased to share their tips too.

By the end of the lesson, students are able to

1. know the criteria for each paper : Paper 1(Listening), Paper 2(Speaking), Paper 3(Reading), and Paper 4(Writing) briefly by copying the notes given.

1. The teacher introduces the MUET paper briefly.

2. The students copy the notes given.

Reflection

The students were paying attention during the discussion. They were very co-operative.

1. write their response towards the statements of "still thoughts" given in not less than 120 words.

2. choose at least a reference book for MUET subject.

3. know the reading materials one should read for Paper 3, Reading.

4. know how to skim a text given by applying the technique learnt to the exercise given.

Activities


 

1. The teacher revises the test format for Paper 3 with the students in

general.

2. The teacher introduces the session of "Still Thoughts" to the students.

3. The teacher introduces few MUET reference books to the class.

4. The teacher introduces few reading materials to the class.

5. the students copy the notes on skimming.

6. The students do the exercise in the handout given.

7. The teacher discusses the exercise with the students.

8. The students write their response towards the "still thoughts" given.

Reflection

The students were still not so familiar with the test format in Paper 3 because they were not exposed to the model exam paper yet. Some of them were very interested with the reading materials shown. On the other hand,they were able to answer the simple questions given correctly. The application of skimming will be further exposed to them in the later lesson.

Reading Technique: Scanning

By the end of the lesson, students are able to

1. share one's thought confidently and politely based on the topic given in "still thoughts" session.

2. know what is scanning by discussing the notes given and doing the exercise given.

Activities


 

1. The teacher revises the previous topic on skimming generlly.

2. The students present their 'still thoughts' in class.

3. The students copy the notes on scanning.

8. The students write their response towards the "still thoughts" given.

Reflection

The "Still Thoughts" session was successful as all of the students involved sharing their opinions and thoughts clearly. The revision on skimming showing that 50% of the students were still unsure with it. They might know the theory but did not really understand its application. The exercise on scanning would be the homework due to time constraint. More discussion on skimming and scanning will be carried out in the next lesson.
